Celebrating Diversity, Creating Change
We were thrilled to celebrate Pride in Toronto and Ottawa this year. From shaking it on our big, beautiful float to meeting Pride goers in Ottawa to having important discussions around our political action work and what we are doing to make sure workplaces are safe, welcoming and inclusive for our LGBTQ2+ members.
We marched with over 8,000 people in solidarity with the Asupeechoseewagong Grassy Narrows First Nation for mercury justice and clean water access. The contamination caused by the Dryden Paper Mill dumping mercury in the English-Wabigoon River in the 1960s and ’70s continues to affect the community. Led by Shyanna Medicine, who holds the Indigenous Seat on our Executive Board. This important event, held every two years, highlights critical issues — and next time, we need even more of you to join us and make a greater impact.
Workers Elect the Future!
This Labour Day, we were in more than a dozen locations across Ontario, showing our purple power and letting our province know that our healthcare workers will determine who will be elected to office in the upcoming Provincial and Federal elections.
We hosted our first-ever EmpowerHer Gala, and this year, we proudly supported the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation (WCJF).
During the event, members celebrated culture, enjoyed incredible performances and recognized SEIU International Canadian Vice President Sharleen Stewart, who won the first-ever EmpowerHer award.
